Walking into the Xiu Jade Carving Heritage Site in Xintun Village, Qianying Town, Xiuyan County(Manchu Autonomous County), you may feel that you are entering a palace of carved jade. As one of the national intangible cultural heritage projects, the Xiu jade carving is a folk craft developed in the Xiuyan County in Liaoning Province. It boasts over 100 varieties of seven major series, including figures, animals, birds and flowers and so on. Xiu jade carving requires exquisite skills and intricate techniques, especially for “plain works”. Making soft rings and flexible chains are the most typical and difficult ones.
