On May 30, the Online International Communication Event “Daka China: Understanding the Chinese Path to Modernization (in Liaoning)” interview delegation visited the Three-Step Cold Rolling Branch of Bensteel Sheet Cold Rolling Plant, experiencing up close the new charm of the “Meritorious Enterprise of the People’s Republic of China” in green development.
Shaded by lush trees, with clean roads and fresh air, the factory buildings are nestled among the foliage. In early summer, the vibrant greenery in the factory area presents a stark contrast to the traditional image of dusty, old-fashioned factories.
Regarding the significant changes in the factory environment, Gu Zhongshuai, the workshop supervisor of the three-step cold acid rolling operation area of Bensteel Sheet Cold Rolling Plant, shared an amusing anecdote: “When I first started working here, I dared not wear white shoes in the factory area, as they would get dirty just from walking around during a single workday. But now, as our factory environment has greatly improved, I can wear white shoes without worry.”
“Besides the factory environment, Bensteel has invested in many low-carbon and environmentally friendly devices in recent years, focusing on green development. Now, the industrial wastewater in the entire factory is reused after treatment, and this ‘wastewater’ can even be used for fish farming,” said Gu. Currently, Bensteel is vigorously promoting the construction of AAA-level scenic garden factories, adhering to the principles of greening, beautifying, landscaping, and humanizing, accelerating the transformation and upgrading of traditional steel enterprise, and striving to create a beautiful landscape of “factories in the woods, roads in the green, and people in the scenery”.
2023 marks the third year since the merger of Bensteel and Ansteel, during which the overall production capacity and independent research and development capabilities of Bensteel have been significantly improved. In 2022, the annual steel rolling output of the three-step cold acid rolling unit reached 2.35 million tons, nearly 5% above its designed capacity, operating at a super-efficient level. “At the same time, our independently developed cold-rolled ultra-deep drawing wide sheet has obtained over ten patents, making it the widest cold-rolled sheet in the world. It has been put into use by 12 car manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Honda, SAIC, FAW Hongqi, and BYD,” said Gu.
In the future, Bensteel will seize the opportunity of the ongoing “Liaoshen Campaign” in the new era to continuously accelerate the transformation and upgrading of traditional steel enterprise into advanced manufacturing enterprise, and contribute its “steel power” to Liaoning’s comprehensive revitalization and new breakthroughs.
