At dusk, two black-faced spoonbills are seen strolling on the mudflats near Guanjia Lake in Zhuanghe, a county-level city in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province. They spread their wings to hover over the lake, or lower their heads to forage, using the long pipa-shaped beaks to swing left and right in the tidewater to search for small fish and shrimps. The black-faced spoonbill is an endangered bird in the world and enjoys the reputation of “the giant panda among birds”.
