Japanese University Students Learn Traditional Chinese Art in Liaoning
2024-09-05

As brisk autumn winds embrace a clear autumn sky with bracing air, 21 Japanese university students came to Shenyang, Dalian, and Benxi in Liaoning Province, to participate in the “Youth Roaming in China” event to learn traditional Chinese culture, exchange life insights, and further establish friendships with Chinese counterparts.

On September 2, the Japanese university students came to Shenyang Normal University (SYNU) to learn traditional Chinese seal carving art and taiji fan performance. In the spacious and bright classroom of the College of Fine Art and Design of SYNU, the Japanese students, under the guidance of teachers, wielded carving knives to attentively carve out various works with flexible shapes. Then they dipped the carved seal in red ink paste, and stamped it on white paper. They held their seal-carving works and excitedly took photos with their mobile phones.

The seal carved by Kobayashi Kana, a student from Kansai Gaidai University, was a loong pattern. Kana said that she likes the shape of loong very much and also has a deep love for Chinese culture. She has participated in the “Youth Roaming in China” twice this year. “I really like the ancient buildings in Liaoning. It is a rare experience for me to visit the Shenyang Imperial Palace, the world cultural heritage site, and experience the charm of Shenyang culture firsthand.” Kana said.

Over the past few days, the Japanese students visited the Liaoning Provincial Museum, Dalian Port, Dalian Lyushun Taiyanggou Old Street, Benxi Water Cave, as well as many universities in Liaoning to exchange with students in Shenyang and Dalian about Chinese learning, and share life experiences, enhancing mutual understanding and building friendships through interactions with each other.
