Crafting Colorful Snakes with Leather Patchwork Embroidery Techniques
2025-01-26

On the campus of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, international students from Japan, South Korea, and Thailand learned leather patchwork embroidery techniques to sew “auspicious snakes” to celebrate the Spring Festival of the Chinese Year of the Snake.

The international students created colorful “auspicious snakes” by drawing snake patterns on paper, selecting leather cut-and-paste combinations in various colors, and applying stitching techniques such as knot stitch and flat stitch. They then placed their creations on branches in the campus woods to mimic the snakes’ movement through the grove. Thanya Saeyang, an international student from Thailand, enthusiastically stated, “I will frame this artwork and hang it on my dormitory wall. I believe it will bring me good luck in the new year.”
