Amber is a kind of transparent biological fossil buried underground for tens of millions of years. Fushun City, Liaoning Province is a main place of origin for amber in China. As early as in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Fushun’s local craftsmen began to carve on amber. Through the inheritance and development of generations of craftsmen, a unique artistic style has gradually taken shape in the local area.
Chen Huansheng is a representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage of amber carving. His works cover multiple patterns, such as flowers, birds, fish, insects, and figures. He skillfully uses the stylish colors and textures of raw amber stones for creation, making the small animals and plants in amber integrate well into the complete works.
