On April 8, Liaoning Provincial Library (Liaoning Ancient Book Protection Center) opened a special exhibition on the protection and inheritance of ancient books named “Protect Ancient Books, Promote Traditional Culture”. On the first day of the exhibition, a number of experiencing activities on traditional culture were held, such as engraved block printing, ancient book restoration demonstration, and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Project of “wood carving”.

Engraved block printing has the title of “Living Fossil” in the history of Chinese printing. So, do you know how many steps does it take to complete an engraved block printing? According to the library worker, the first step is to brush the pigment evenly onto the engraving plate. Next, lay the rice paper for colouring. Then, use a wooden block to rub the back of the rice paper back and forth for printing. And finally, an engraved block printing is completed.
