At Liaohekou National Nature Reserve in Liaoning Province, flocks of pied avocets “cascade down” like a falling river of stars. The river in the reserve shimmers with azure ripples, while greenery stretches along its banks. As the birds flap their wings, they turn the landscape into a romantic painting scroll.
