Believe it or not, even China’s EMU trains are now getting a thorough “bathhouse” treatment.
Recently, the fully automated train-washing facility at the Dalian EMU Depot of China Railway Shenyang Group was officially launched. Combining advanced technology with careful attention to detail, the facility has drawn praise online for being both highly efficient and exceptionally thorough.
After long runs, the trains slowly roll into the “bathhouse” at no more than 5 km/h. The moment they enter, the sensor system is activated and a dedicated washing cycle starts automatically. First comes a full-body “shower,” with dense spray nozzles rinsing away dust from every angle and preparing the surface for a deeper clean. This is followed by a thorough “scrub”: a special pH-neutral cleaning solution, gentle on the train’s paintwork, works in tandem with rotating brushes that closely follow the train’s contours to remove stubborn grime and dirt from corners and crevices.
Once the wash is complete, clean water rinses away the foam, and 12 powerful air blowers thoroughly dry the remaining water droplets on the train’s exterior. Finally, staff add manual finishing touches and conduct final checks to ensure no detail is overlooked, leaving the train spotless and as good as new.
The entire process is efficient and seamless. In just five minutes, an EMU train can come out looking as good as new.
