Above Jiahe Square in Dalian, Liaoning Province, the glow of the setting sun fades gently, dyeing the sky a tranquil deep blue. Street lights come on one after another, and streams of traffic stretch into endless golden ribbons, as the whole urban area sinks softly into the night.
