On February 20th, an All New Fully Electric BMW i3 eDrive40L rolled off the production line at the BMW iFACTORY (also known as Plant Lydia in China) in Tiexi, marking the cumulative production of 5 million automobiles at the Shenyang BMW production base. The All New Fully Electric BMW i3, produced in the newest factory area, signifies our acceleration towards an electrified future.
This remarkable milestone once again highlights the significant contribution of the Shenyang production base to the successful development of the BMW Group. As an exemplary example of the BMW iFACTORY strategy, the Shenyang production base is well prepared for electrification and will play a pivotal role in the future.
Starting from 1994, the BMW Group has seen successful growth in China. In 2003, BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) was established. Since 2010, BBA has invested a total of more than 94.5 billion yuan in China and created over 26,000 high-quality jobs, implementing the “Home in China” strategy through specific actions. Currently, the Shenyang BMW production base integrates research and development, procurement and production, with an annual production capacity of 830,000 automobiles. It is one of the largest production bases and most important new energy vehicle centers of the BMW Group globally.

As the pioneer of the overall production strategy of BMW iFACTORY, the Shenyang BMW production base perfectly fits the future-oriented production mode of “lean, green and digital”. All factories are able to flexibly produce BEV, PHEV and ICE models, responding quickly to the rapid growth of electric vehicle demand in China. At the end of 2020, the first China-produced BEV, BMW iX3 went on sale and was supplied not only to the Chinese market, but also to the European market. In 2022, the BMW i3 was launched, contributing to a 91.6% year-on-year increase in sales of BMW’s all-electric vehicle sales. On the occasion of the celebration of the 5 millionth vehicle rolling off the production line, the All New Fully Electric BMW i3 eDrive40L was officially launched, setting the tone for BMW’s electrification strategy in 2023.
