The First Cross-Sea Metro Line in Northeast China Welcomes Its First Passengers
Mar 08,2023

Recently, Dalian Metro Line 5, the first cross-sea metro line in Northeast China, has been open to visitors and passengers for free for half a month.
“We are going through the sea!” One passenger remarked to his companion as the train departed from Dalian Railway Station and headed to Suoyuwan South Station. The passenger beside him peered into the tunnel and marveled, “Indeed! It’s unbelievable!”

Two citizens are immersed in the aesthetically pleasing luminous effect at Qingyun Street Station.

The submarine tunnel from Dalian Railway Station to Suoyuwan South Station on Dalian Metro Line 5 is the first large-diameter submarine karst shield tunnel in the world, with a length of 2882 meters (2310 meters offshore) and a depth of 50 meters below sea level.
The decoration of stations along Dalian Metro Line 5 features themed stations with unique styles while it also maintains the simple style of the existing lines of Dalian Metro. “This station is so beautiful! It is spacious and bright, with a dome in the shape of sea waves and pillars displaying shiny dynamic flowers.” At Qingyun Street Station, one of the featured stations, 3D technology and creative canopy are used to create the scenery of different seasons. Ms. Sun and her companion, while waiting for the train, could not help but take pictures of the sight.
Dalian Metro Line 5, after it is put into operation, will become the pivotal line that runs through the core area of Dalian City from north to south. It will connect Qingniwa and Suoyuwan, the two core functional areas of Dalian, facilitating the economic and trade exchanges between the two areas. It will also serve Dalian Railway Station and Dalian New Airport, the two transportation hubs, accelerating the economic development of Dalian.
