On December 18, a group of international tourism and media representatives participating in the “Ice and Snow Journey—2024 International Tourism Agencies and Media Delegation to Liaoning’s Ice and Snow Attractions” visited Liaoning Zixiatang Songhua Inkstone Museum in Benxi, Liaoning. During their visit, international guests from various countries not only observed the intricate craftsmanship behind the making of Songhua inkstones, but also had the opportunity to experience the joy of writing Chinese characters with inkstones, gaining a deeper understanding of Liaoning’s intangible cultural heritage.
The museum is filled with a dazzling array of exhibits, with the exquisite craftsmanship of Songhua inkstones leaving visitors in awe. The inkstone, one of China’s traditional “Four Treasures of the Study”, holds a special place in Chinese culture. The Songhua inkstone is highly regarded by scholars and calligraphers for its unique material and superb craftsmanship. Under the guidance of the museum’s docent, the international guests learned about the history, production techniques, and appreciation methods of Songhua inkstones. The museum also organized a special hands-on experience for the foreign delegates—inkstone opening. After successfully completing their inkstones, they were guided by professional calligraphy instructors to pick up brushes and dip them into the ink made from Songhua inkstone. As they wrote Chinese characters on white paper, each stroke reflected their deep interest in Chinese calligraphy and culture.
