Liaoning Archaeological Museum, the first professional archaeological museum in Northeast China, recently opened to welcome visitors. The museum was established by the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Renovated from an old office building, the museum features an exquisite design layout and a rich collection of cultural relics.
Currently, Liaoning Archaeological Museum has three themed exhibitions: “Guanshan Mountain · Beauty Sharing — Exhibition of Great Wall Culture in Liaoning”, “East Dawning — Exhibition of the Prosperous Hongshan People”, and “Origin · Legacy — Exhibition of the Latest Archaeological Achievements of the Hongshan Culture”.
Liaoning Archaeological Museum began its preparatory construction in 2023, which is built on the former site of the office building of the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. After the institute moved to a new location, the renovation of the old office building was initiated. During the construction of the museum, more than 20,000 cultural relics in the collection of the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and a large number of unearthed archaeological specimens were utilized to create a themed and scenario-based cultural relics exhibition hall, reflecting the profound history and culture of Liaoning and even Northeast China. As a research and study exchange center, Liaoning Archaeological Museum currently implements a reservation system.
Bai Baoyu, director of the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, said that the reuse of exhibition resources is one of the leading ideas in building the entire archaeological museum. It not only enriches the exhibition content of the archaeological museum but also saves exhibition costs.
