Chaoyang Bird Fossils National Geopark Reopens
2025-05-10

Recently, the Bird Fossils National Geopark in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province celebrated its reopening after more than seven months of renovation. As the core area of the Jehol Biota, one of the major international paleontological discoveries in the 20th century, Chaoyang is known as the “Fossil Capital of the World”.

The geopark in Chaoyang is the only in-situ fossil themed park in the world, boasting China’s largest paleontological museum, the world’s longest Mesozoic geological corridor, and the world’s largest petrified forest in ex-situ conservation.

Besides, the Archaefructus liaoningensis and Sinosauropteryx collected in this geopark also draw global attention. Chaoyang is therefore hailed as the place where “the most ancient flower had ever blossomed, and the first ever bird had taken off into the sky”.
