The national-treasure masterpiece, Lady Guoguo’s Spring Outing, will be on display at the Liaoning Provincial Museum’s exhibition China in Poetry and Painting: The Poetic Realm of Chinese Painting on December 30, 2025, becoming a focal point of attention among the cultural and museum sector. The painting scroll depicts Lady Guoguo, the elder sister of Tang Dynasty Emperor Xuanzong’s consort Yang Yuhuan, and her entourage embarking on a spring outing during the Tianbao Era. It features nine figures and eight horses, enjoying a balanced composition against no backdrop. The figures exude composure and elegance, and the horses move forward with light steps, enabling the painting scroll to overflow with a leisurely and gorgeous atmosphere of a spring outing.
This exhibition will present to the public for the first time a 30-billion-pixel super high-definition image of Lady Guoguo’s Spring Outing, acquired by the Liaoning Provincial Museum. A huge high-definition screen, specially developed for displaying paper and silk calligraphy and painting works, is set up in the exhibition hall. Visitors can see clearly on the screen the horses’ manes, and the brocade texture and delicate folds of the figures’ clothing.
