From December 31, 2025 to January 3, 2026, the Liaoning Provincial Museum welcomed a total of 45,421 visits. Of these, 61% were from outside Liaoning Province, and 39% were from within the province. The top five out-of-province sources of visitors were Hebei, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Shandong, and Inner Mongolia. Except Shenyang, the top five in-province source cities were Chaoyang, Anshan, Tieling, Dalian, and Jinzhou. During the three-day New Year’s Day holiday, the museum received 33,654 visits, an increase of 85.13% compared to the same period last year.

On New Year’s Eve, the Liaoning Provincial Museum’s “Millennia of Culture: New Year in Style” evening series of events covered six sections: national trend celebration, immersive children’s drama, interactive scenario games, warm educational activities, intangible cultural heritage handicraft market, and professional public-benefit guided tours. These six events accompanied visitors in embracing the year of 2026.

To further meet the cultural needs of the general public during the holiday, the Liaoning Provincial Museum extended its opening hours during the New Year’s Day holiday. From January 1 to 2, the opening hours were extended by 2 hours each day, and on January 3, the opening hours were extended by 1 hour. The museum also organized special lectures, hands-on activities, special guides, cultural discussions, and study tours, creating a comprehensive immersive cultural tourism experience.

Two major year-end exhibitions drew widespread attention. China in Poetry and Painting: The Poetic Realm of Chinese Painting gathered 115 pieces (sets) of precious cultural relics from more than 10 cultural and museum institutions across China, presenting a millennia-old cultural relic feast. The exhibition The Art of Lacquering: Exhibition of Yuan, Ming, and Qing Lacquerware Masterpieces, co-organized with the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum, showcased the cultural connotations of ancient Chinese lacquerware decoration techniques, with the stunning appearance of Tang Dynasty Jiuxiao Huanpei guqin (a plucked seven-string instrument). Moreover, some other exhibitions were also well-received by visitors from all over the country, such as Decorative Patterns of Cultural Relics: Educational Exhibition on the Essence of Traditional Chinese Culture, Eastern Metropolis Mirrored in the Liang River: Exhibition of Copies and Unearthed Artifacts from the Han-Wei-Jin Mural Tombs of Liaoyang, and the museum’s permanent exhibition Ancient Liaoning.

During the holiday, the Liaoning Provincial Museum also launched a series of new programs for its classic brand activities, including lectures, special guides, and cultural discussions. Experts, in conjunction with the exhibition China in Poetry and Painting, provided in-depth interpretations of the philosophical core of “harmonious coexistence” in Chinese civilization. Activities such as making “Three Companions of Winter” pen holders, and hand-painted ancient official square-badge calendars, allowed visitors to perceive the rich connotations and profundity of cultural relics firsthand. Besides, the museum has also been continuously optimizing its services for the elderly and children. It launched handicraft activities tailored for seniors, and the “Artistic Splendor of Poetry and Painting” one-day study tour for children, providing high-quality cultural experiences for visitors of different ages.

To reach more visitors with its high-quality cultural services in the New Year, the Liaoning Provincial Museum has fully integrated online and offline communication resources, and launched a number of live broadcast events, attracting over 555,000 online views. This has helped the museum make a breakthrough in its promotion.
