The festival atmosphere spreads over Liaoning as the Chinese Lunar Year of the Dragon is approaching. To experience the Spring Festival atmosphere in Liaoning through various ways, six international students from West and South Asia went Spring Festival shopping in their favorite trendy place, the 1905 Re-Creative Space situated in Tiexi District, Shenyang City.
Strolling through rows of shops, they were attracted by well-designed and colorful paintings depicting vibrant door-gods and vivid dragons which convey the unique charisma of the Spring Festival. The international students from different countries immersed themselves in the Spring Festival vibe as they sauntered down the street.
1905 Re-Creative Space is home to a bunch of ingenious young artists who have created exquisite Spring Festival cultural and creative products, showcasing the distinct characteristics of Northeast China. The Indian student Sagarika excitedly selected the paintings, fans and backpacks related to Chinese dragon in Lianpian Art Club. “My Chinese zodiac sign is dragon and my zodiac year of birth is around the corner.” She explained joyfully.
The New Year painting Sagarika bought was hand-painted by Wang Sida, the manager of the club, who patiently introduced to these students the auspicious meanings of these paintings, door-gods and customs popular in Northern China during the Spring Festival.
Apart from New Year paintings and door-gods, these students are also fascinated by pillows and canvas bags printed with dolls which are unique in Northeast China. The Jordanian student Noor Kanaa chose a canvas bag featuring a cute doll in a flowery cotton-padded jacket. Although it is a traditional image in the New Year paintings in Northeast China, the design is stylish. “It will be so awesome if I go shopping with this bag during the Spring Festival.” Noor Kanaa said smilingly.
“Liaoning is soaked in sweet festival atmosphere, joyfulness, which makes people warm and cheerful.” Noor Kanaa added. As a symbol of Chinese culture for thousands of years, the Spring Festival is growing increasingly admirable and lovable.
