On May 16, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held a press conference, presenting new breakthroughs made in the information and communication technology industry to boost the comprehensive revitalization of the province.
By the end of 2023, Liaoning saw a 48.1% year-on-year increase in the number of 5G mobile phone users, totaling 21.991 million, ranking the sixth nationwide. The province also boasted 106,700 5G base stations, a year-on-year increase of 62%, ranking the fifth nationwide. “Dual-gigabit” networks, namely gigabit fiber optic networks and gigabit 5G networks, have covered all townships and above, and the penetration rate of 5G networks in administrative villages across the province has reached 100%.
Enhancing the development of “5G Plus Smart Tourism”, Liaoning has promoted deep coverage of “dual-gigabit” networks in 145 4A-level scenic spots, and advanced the innovation development of “5G Plus 5A” in six 5A-level scenic spots. Liaoning Province is accelerating the integration and application of “5G Plus Industrial Internet” and has organized multiple events, including the “Hundred Cities, Thousand Parks” initiative, to promote the comprehensive integration of industrial internet into various industrial parks across the province. By the end of 2023, more than 200 “5G Plus Industrial Internet” projects and over 370 5G Virtual (Mixed) Private Network projects were registered across the province.
In the next phase, the information and communication technology industry in Liaoning will continue to promote the construction of 5G and gigabit fiber optic networks, establish and operate 20,000 5G base stations, further installing 5G and gigabit fiber optic networks in parks, hospitals, schools and residential communities. The province will also enhance the deep coverage of 5G in coastal areas of six coastal cities in the province, namely Dalian, Dandong, Jinzhou, Yingkou, Panjin, and Huludao. Moreover, the province will improve the infrastructure for the mobile Internet of Things, achieving full coverage of 5G RedCap in county-level cities and above.
Liaoning will promote the widespread application of 5G across various industries, empowering different sectors and creating exemplary projects 5G plus smart education, smart healthcare, and smart culture and tourism. With a focus on modernizing agriculture, the province will actively explore applications of 5G plus smart agriculture, driving the smart modernization, digital upgrading, and network connection of agriculture. In the industrial sector, efforts will be made to advance the large-scale application of industrial internet, creating typical application scenarios and pilot demonstration projects to facilitate industrial transformation and upgrading.
