Wang Chonglyu, a famous writer and scholar in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, recently received a letter of thanks from the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).

The letter reads,

“Dear Professor Chonglyu Wang (王充闾教授),

On behalf of the C.V. Starr East Asian Library, UC Berkeley, I would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation the receipt of 12 titles (34 volumes) of books that you kindly donated to us (see below for details). These books include your original published works and secondary research books about you. They are valuable addition to our library’s collection on Chinese literature, philosophy and aesthetics. We are delighted to accept them and will keep them permanently in our collection. We hope they will benefit researchers and interested readers in North America and beyond.”

Paying an academic visit to UC Berkeley before last Spring Festival, A Bao, a host of Liaoning Radio and Television (LRTV) was surprised and felt cordial when discovering the works of Wang Chonglyu, the writer and scholar from Liaoning, on the bookshelf while looking up materials at the C.V. Starr East Asian Library. She sent the message to Liu Qingsong, Proprieter of Liaohai Publishing House, and Liu said, “These books are Mr. Chonglyu’s early works. There are a lot of new works and collections published now, and the publishing house can donate some of his books to the library.”

Taking the chance of the academic visit, A Bao, after many efforts, fulfilled the book donation plan with the responsible person of the C.V. Starr East Asian Library. Among the books donated, there are nearly 100 books in three categories: works by the famous writer and scholar Mr. Wang Chonglyu, works by the famous writer Mr. Zhu Yong, and ancient books and books of northeastern Chinese regional culture published by Liaohai Publishing House. This batch of books reflects the history, humanities, and culture of northeastern China in different periods.

The University of California, Berkeley is a world-renowned university, nicknamed “the Ivy League among US public universities”. The C.V. Starr East Asian Library at UC Berkeley is a well-known professional library on the West Coast of the United States that collects books on East Asian culture. The library’s responsible person told A Bao, “We are very grateful for this donation from Shenyang, Liaoning. This batch of books will be a permanent collection of the library available for the borrowing of worldwide scholars and students who are interested in Chinese culture.”
