Guan Xiaogang is a photographer who holds a particular affection for winter photography. His encounter with photography began with a heavy snowfall in Shenyang in 2007. Amid the flying snowflakes, he witnessed the heartening scenes of Shenyang citizens providing mutual support, an experience that profoundly impacted him.

This experience instantly led him to use his camera to capture the moments of the heavy snowfall, and the people and their stories. Since then, he has committed himself to the photography of Liaoning’s natural and cultural landscapes every winter, using his lens to record the changes of the times.

Year after year, Guan’s artistic practice has been inspired by the natural landscapes of ice and snow all along. He has traversed through a myriad of mountains, rivers, lakes, forests and snowy lands, photographing the grandeur and magnificence of Liaoning’s winter wonderlands. His endeavors have drawn greater attention to this snowy winter landscape.
