On May 1, the “Liaobo Lecture Series” will specially invite Dong Baohou, Deputy Director and Research Fellow of the Liaoning Provincial Museum, to deliver a lecture titled “Jiangnan’s Prosperity Captured in Painting: An In-Depth Analysis of Liaoning Provincial Museum’s Treasured Masterpiece Prosperous Suzhou”. The lecture will provide a detailed analysis of the painting’s intricacies. Drawing on the historical context of its creation, the lecture aims to reconstruct the urban landscape and social life of Suzhou during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It will explore the rich content depicted in the painting, including streets, commerce, and folk customs. By analyzing both the painting techniques and historical documents, the lecture will highlight the painting’s unique value as a historical source.

The speaker, Dong Baohou, is primarily engaged in the research, authentication, and curation of paintings and calligraphy. He has curated more than twenty exhibitions, including “A Garden in Full Bloom”, “Splendid and Rich Traditional Chinese Painting” and “China in Poetry and Painting”.
The lecture will be available both online and offline. The on-site session will take place in the Academic Lecture Hall on the second floor of the Liaoning Provincial Museum, with 100 seats available by reservation. Starting at 10:00 a.m. on April 29, audiences can make reservations via the Liaoning Provincial Museum’s official WeChat account. Those unable to attend in person can watch the lecture via live streaming. The museum’s official Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) and WeChat Video accounts will simultaneously broadcast the lecture at 2:00 p.m. on May 1.
