Visitors who have recently visited the Liaoning Provincial Museum probably remember that a unique cultural and creative store has been added to the museum, where a huge hand-made flower is decorated on the lintel. This is the “Spring Cottage—Liaoning Provincial Museum Courtesy Service Station”, a cultural and creative station centered on public welfare services for people with disabilities, which was jointly built by the Liaoning Provincial Museum and the Liaoning Disabled Persons’ Federation.

The station integrates 23 categories of intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, including filigree inlay headdresses, gourd pyrography, paper-cuts, and shadow puppets. Each piece of work was handmade by disabled craftsmen, and the inspiration for these works came from the Liaoning Provincial Museum. When visitors pause to admire the works, they can also see disabled craftsmen demonstrate the craftsmanship on site. Within the fingertips, pyrography outlines the story of the ancient city, and silk threads weave a glorious life. Visitors can immerse themselves in the charm of traditional handicrafts, and understand the tenacity contained in the works of disabled craftsmen.

The Liaoning Provincial Museum leverages its own advantages to activate the utilization of cultural relics, and actively shoulders the social responsibilities of cultural and museum institutions to explore new ways of integrating “museums + public welfare”. It also strives to broaden the boundaries of public cultural services to integrate cultural communication and public welfare for people with disabilities, endowing cultural spaces with a humanistic touch.

The Liaoning Provincial Museum will continue to deepen its cooperation with the Liaoning Disabled Persons’ Federation. Building upon the public welfare practice of “Spring Cottage”, the museum will provide flexible employment opportunities for more disabled craftsmen. Furthermore, it will also actively explore a new public welfare model that benefits people with disabilities and achieves long-term sustainability through the empowerment of museums, making the station a unique name card that highlights the responsibilities of museums and cultural institutions in Liaoning, and conveys the warmth of urban civilization.
