Recently, Haicheng gaoqiao (or stilt dance) was performed in Qianshan Mountain Scenic Area of Anshan City, Liaoning Province, adding a touch of joy for tourists. Haicheng gaoqiao has a profound history of more than 300 years. The wooden stilts used in the dance range from 30 cm to 300 cm; a male character and a female one usually perform contra dance together, tending to sing while dancing. Diverse performing styles, such as jubilant, enthusiastic, sentimental and jocular, integrate into Haicheng gaoqiao, displaying the distinctive feature of gaoqiao yangge (or yangko) dance in Northeast China.
