The cranes depicted in the ancient painting Auspicious Cranes “soar through the sky”, and the horses in Lady of Guoguo on a Spring Outing “gallop forward”... The immersive digital exhibition “Splendor of Tang and Song Dynasties—Art World in Digital Paintings”, launched by the Liaoning Provincial Museum, has drawn many visitors from inside and outside Liaoning Province to experience this visual feast of the integration of culture and technology.

The exhibition “Splendor of Tang and Song Dynasties—Art World in Digital Paintings” is a new attempt by the Liaoning Provincial Museum to boost cultural and tourism prosperity. The exhibition comprises a total of 10 exhibition areas and offers an approximately 40-minute immersive experience. The national treasure-level ancient paintings from the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties, collected by the museum, are ingeniously integrated with cutting-edge technologies, such as holographic projection, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and immersive drama, to highlight the beauty of the original paintings, and reproduce the prosperous scenes of the Tang and Song dynasties, providing visitors with immersive experiences that traverse time and space. The paintings displayed include Nymph of the Luohe River, Lady of Guoguo on a Spring Outing, Autumn Window Reading Yi Jing, Court Ladies Adorning Their Hair with Flowers, Waiting for Ferry in Summer Mountains, and Auspicious Cranes.

The exhibition takes place in the first digital full-coverage exhibition hall of the Liaoning Provincial Museum. It employs an ultra-large dome screen to offer visitors a panoramic view, and applies digital technologies, such as naked-eye 3D and VR experience, to enhance the immersive experience. Through the linkage between mobile phones and screens, visitors can also experience ancient-style interactive games, such as engaging in piying (Chinese shadow puppetry), guessing lantern riddles, and releasing festive lanterns.
Furthermore, the exhibition creates a new space for ultra-high-definition, immersive and interactive performances and digital exhibitions. Through cutting-edge technologies, it breaks the limitations of time and space, allowing visitors to personally interact with painting and calligraphy works, explore cultural values conveyed by cultural relics, and share great moments created by the deep integration of culture and technology.
