2024-10-17

On October 17, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held a press conference, presenting developments in the elderly care sector in Liaoning.

Liaoning has advocated for the integration of “a well-functioning government, an efficient market, a warm-hearted society, and loving families” and continuously fostered the service brand of “Liaoning Wellness for Enjoying the Silver Years”, striving to build an age-friendly society. The elderly care sector across the province has thus advanced in a steady, orderly, and sound manner.

By the end of 2023, the basic old-age insurance for urban employees covered 21.503 million people across the province and the basic old-age insurance for rural and non-working urban residents covered 10.204 million people. A total of 3,796 local companies have set up corporate pensions, covering 466,000 employees. 1.862 million private pension accounts have been opened. The basic medical insurance has covered 37.217 million people in the province, with 8.235 million instances of general outpatient, emergency treatment, outpatient treatment for chronic diseases, and remote inpatient care. 462,000 elderly individuals have benefited from minimum living allowances, support for the extremely poor, and other assistance and welfare policies.

Liaoning has continuously strengthened its elderly care service supply. There have been 2,371 elderly care institutions in the province, providing 212,400 beds. The elderly now have had access to more convenient meal assistance, cleaning assistance, mobility assistance, bathing assistance, and other services. The province has employed 24,600 elderly care professionals, including 15,000 elderly care nurses. There have been 14,021 elderly care service facilities in urban and rural communities with 49,500 beds.

The elderly education in Liaoning has been steadily developing, with a five-tiered elderly education system comprising one provincial-level senior citizen university, 14 municipal-level senior citizen universities, 92 county-level senior citizen universities, 409 township-level senior citizen universities, and 4,019 community elderly-citizen learning centers.
