The melodious strains of musical instruments and the aroma of delicacies filled the air as intangible cultural heritage (ICH) works such as Xiuyan jade and Dalian shell carvings from Liaoning captivated visitors. On the evening of January 20 (local time in Switzerland), the “Dalian Night” reception at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 (Winter Davos Forum) was held at the Davos Congress Centre in Switzerland. More than 1,000 guests attended the reception, including WEF representatives, and well-known Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs.
In the core exhibition area, Chinese zodiac-themed “mystery boxes” made of southern Liaoning dough figurines spell out the “DALIAN” logo. Representative intangible cultural heritage works from China, such as Xiuyan jade, Dalian shell carvings, Longquan celadon, and gambiered Guangdong gauze handmade qipao (cheongsams), showcased the essence of traditional Chinese culture. Notably, specially designed horse silhouette images display the “History of Davos in Dalian”, with nine representing the eight collaborations between Davos Forum and Dalian, and the vision for further deepening cooperation in the future. Dalian will host the WEF’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2026, also known as the Summer Davos, in June. This reception aims to build momentum toward the upcoming grand event.
