On May 15, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held the twenty-second press conference of the series titled “Making Breakthroughs for Revitalization, and Striving for Decisive Achievements”, presenting measures to accelerate the province’s development into a high-quality sports powerhouse.
Since the beginning of this year, 30 operating ski resorts across the province have received 1.634 million skier visits, marking a 4.3% year-on-year increase, with total revenue reaching 185 million yuan, up 4.5% year-on-year. At the 9th Asian Winter Games, Liaoning athletes delivered outstanding performances, earning six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The province ranked third nationwide in both the gold medal tally and overall medal count, setting its best-ever record at the event.
The development of the “big three” (basketball, football, and volleyball) has achieved new breakthroughs. The Liaoning women’s volleyball team claimed the third place in the league, their best result in 18 years, while the men’s volleyball team took first place in Group B of the Chinese Men’s Volleyball League, their best performance in a decade.
This year, Liaoning will host various sporting events including the first National Youth Athletics Games, the preliminary rounds of the table tennis and badminton competitions for the National Games (mass groups), and the qualification tournaments for the U18 and U22 men’s basketball in the National Games. The province will invest 55.05 million yuan to install over 700 sets of fitness equipment in rural areas, build 60 cage football fields, deploy 400 table-tennis tables, and construct six sports parks and 12 public ice-skating rinks and other facilities across the province.
The province will also accelerate the construction of venues and supporting infrastructure such as the Shenyang Wangjiawan Ice Sports Center, Dalian Puwan Ski Resort and Ice Arena, and the Fushun Longgang Mountain Snow Sports Center, promoting new breakthroughs in the preparation for the 15th National Winter Games.
